Dr. Lis is a Barbara McClintock Professor of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Cornell University. Prof. Lis is a member of American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of National Academy of Sciences of USA. Prof. Lis laboratory is interested in studying the mechanisms of transcriptional control and RNA aptamer (drug) development. The major achievements from Professor Lis laboratory include: First demonstrated the use of ß-galactosidase-tagged genes to track gene expression in metazoans; Developed the first version of “Chromatin IP” (ChIP) method for mapping proteins on DNA in vivo; Developed a highly-sensitive, nuclear run-on assay (GRO-seq) for genome-wide mapping of the density and orientation of Pol II; Developed approaches for generating and expressing RNA aptamers that inhibit specific interactions of the targeted protein in vitro and in vivo; Discovered that gene activation produces rapid nucleosomes loss that extends beyond the transcription units to flanking insulating elements etc.
 
Dr. Xiang-Dong Fu a full professor in the Dept. of Cellular & Molecular Medicine at the University of California San Diego. Professor Fu laboratory is interested in molecular and cell biology of RNA metabolism and regulation in higher eukaryotic cells. Current research interests in professor Fu lab include the regulation of alternative splicing, functional RNA elements in mammalian genomes, transcription/splicing coupling, nuclear architecture, and cellular reprogramming. Dr. Fu was responsible for co-discovery of SR proteins, a family of RNA binding proteins involved in constitutive and alternative pre-mRNA processing. Professor Fu laboratory was the first to identify a family of kinases specific for SR proteins and demonstrated that these kinases are critical for transducing external and intracellular signals to regulate alternative splicing in the nucleus; elucidated a series of regulatory mechanisms for splice site selection in mammalian cells and developed multiple key technologies for high throughput analysis of gene expression, mRNA isoforms, and genomic interactions, etc.
